The Nature of Language

According to Steven Pinker, Language is an innate aspect where children are born with the ability to acquire a Language. In this case, children do not require formal instructions in their attempt to learn a language. This thesis can be disputed in the view that language is acquired through socialization in the process of instruction. In this case, a child has to listen to what the mother or the guardian is saying in order to be able to utter those words. On this basis, according to the theory of cognitive development postulated by Lev Vygotsky, children are greatly impacted by the social and cultural environments. This means that through socialization children are able to acquire a new language. In an attempt to prove this, if a child is isolated and hence does not socialize or interact with other members of the family or society, he/she will not be in a position to learn a language.
