Understanding Body Language When Dating

It happens all too often that a guy comes back from a date telling his friends that he thinks it went really well, just to find out a few days or weeks later than the woman hasn't agreed to going out with him again. He often wonders where he went wrong, thinking back to the conversations he had on his date. The classic mistake he's making is that he's focusing on what the woman said instead of how she reacted to different things. Basically, he has no understanding of body Language.

Understanding body Language can really help you become a better date and have a better dating life. By looking at the actions or reactions of a woman instead of listening to what she says, you can better determine how a date or relationship is going. It isn't that they mean to lie, but in order to be polite, plenty of women will say they had a good time when they didn't. Because of this, you have to look for the cues that tell you she really had a good time.

When on a date, there are two kinds of body language you need to watch out for. These are negative and positive. Let's look at the negative signs:

1) She's Holding Something Between You

When a woman his holding something between you, maybe her drink or her phone, or something else, she is putting distance between you. She is creating a barrier. This is very telling. What she's trying to do is make sure you don't come too close. Perhaps she isn't comfortable with how the night is going or the conversation. Pick up on this sign.

2) She's Turned Away

If a woman is turned away while you're talking to her, if her face is at an angle facing outward, or maybe you notice that she keeps glancing elsewhere, she might be bored. This isn't a good thing when you're on a date. Try changing topics or suggesting a change in location. You still may be able to recapture her attention.

3) Her Arms Are Crossed

This is a sign of defense, and a very obvious sign that she isn't comfortable. Many people who are upset with someone they are speaking to, cross their arms. It's psychological, but it's a way of protecting themselves. If this happens during your date, try to figure out what might be the problem.

When understanding body language, it is important that you also pick up on cues that suggest she may need something or may need more attention. For example, if a woman is hugging herself (different from crossing her arms) she may be cold. Offer her your jacket. If you see that she is fidgety, playing with her fingers, or has her hands on her lap, she may be nervous. Ask her if she's okay and suggest a change in location if she's not digging the scene. See? Simply by understanding body language, you can become a more attentive and a better date!

Understanding the Psychology of Body Language

Body Language has been known to have a significant impact on interpersonal relationships. Even simple hand gestures can be interpreted in several different ways. To complicate matters more, other body movements and facial expressions can change the meaning of a hand gesture. Therefore, it may not be as easy as it seems to read body Language.

People often do not realize it, but their body movements are an example of unintentional behaviors that can give away their thoughts to others. Because different personality types exhibit different behaviors, you need to be conscious of how you move, as many times people are able to measure you by the behaviors you display.

It's important to remember that the gestures we call body Language not only tell us a lot about other people, but these physical expressions of what we are thinking can tell us more about ourselves as well. Body language might be described as a mirror to the soul because what we are really feeling is normally reflected in our posture and physical movements. How we carry ourselves can actually tell others what emotions we are experiencing.

The interesting thing about non-verbal communication is that it is a product of our biology, environment, and culture. Maybe that's why body language can cue others about our attitudes. We may inherit certain traits, which influence how we project ourselves to others, yet we tend to use different forms of non-verbal communication depending on our relationships with others. For instance, you likely present yourself differently to colleagues at work than you do to your family members. Perhaps because the comfort zone varies, you become more cautious in particular situations, affecting the ways in which you react.

No doubt there is power in the way that you physically present yourself to others. While some gestures are intended, many of the body's responses when we communicate with others seem to be more involuntary in nature. Unfortunately, unconscious body language sometimes causes us to reveal things that we do not want others to know about us. There are a number of physical signs that can give others clues about our emotional state or about what we might be feeling.

Whether we realize it or not, we observe and process the body language of others, especially when talk. Facial expressions and hand gestures add more meaning to the conversation. If we were not aware of these things, another person's words probably would not have the same impact.

One way to interpret the signals of others more accurately is to become more conscious of your own. Pay attention to your gestures and movements as you talk. Try to see the connection between your non-verbal communication and the words that you use to express a thought. By learning to read your own body language, you can begin to have a better understanding of the interactions, which you have with others.

Children are a prime example of how our innate body language works. Young children especially frequently communicate their feelings in a non-verbal way, even after they begin to develop vocabulary. You can usually tell by a child's actions if she is upset or unhappy. Toddlers and preschoolers seem to have a natural aptitude for expressing themselves physically. Likewise, babies and young children become very good at reading our body language.

Interestingly enough, the gestures that children develop as a way to communicate their needs may actually help their brains develop contributing to verbal communication later on. From the start, infants pay close attention to an adult's face focusing on the eyes when you talk to them. How do they know to do this? Genetics is the most logical reason, so perhaps the eyes really are the windows to the soul!

Understanding Body Language Flirting

They say that 70% of what we communicate generally is expressed through body Language. That's how much our gestures come into play when conveying messages. The art of flirting is also expressed with gestures and subtle actions, sometimes even subconscious body signals, also known as body Language flirting. Understanding this artful dance makes it possible for strangers to instantly become comfortable with each other.

What are the signs of body language flirting? We need to be sensitively aware of these gestures to be able to learn them and eventually automatically detect them.

Her Hair

A very common body language flirting sign is when she touches, fixes, and strokes her hair more often than necessary. This is her way of trying to make the best first impression she can. It's also her way of getting you to notice her at the same time.

Eye Contact

If she's at all interested in you, she'll throw you a few lingering glances - ones that last longer than usual. If she's very interested in you, during a conversation she will not only look at your eyes, but she will even tend to glance at your mouth when you're talking. This type of gesture suggests an interest in kissing.

Her Mouth and Lips

Another subtle sign of body language flirting is when a woman makes certain movements or gestures with her mouth or lips. Here are some examples: she may purposely eat something very slowly, she may lick or wet her lips frequently, she may apply chapstick or lipstick very slowly in front of you, and she may blatantly bite her lips. These gestures encourage men to visualize kissing her.

Physical Contact

If she touches you in any manner, this is an obvious sign of body language flirting. She may also lean in closer to you when talking--close enough to touch you or even whisper something in your ear. This creates intimacy between the two of you.

Her Legs and Feet

Women who frequently cross their legs then uncross their legs convey body language flirting. Researchers emphasize that this pattern is a sexually charged behavior. Another sign of flirting you should be cautious of is the direction that her feet are pointed in. If her feet are pointed towards you, it means that she is more likely to gravitate towards you.

Understanding these fundamental body language flirting signs gives you an edge over most other men when flirting with women. Although, not all the signs mentioned here are universally true for all women, they are true for the majority of women. Ultimately, there's only one way to find out for sure, and that's to go out and make yourself aware of these signs and judge for yourself if they're applicable or not.
