Do you speak another Language? Would you like to learn another Language? Many of us live in neighborhoods where we could not carry on a simple conversation with our neighbors if we didn't take the time to learn Spanish or French or Italian.
Our country is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Almost every nationality has some representation here. The news channels like to harp about illegal immigration, and I agree the illegals should strive to become naturalized citizens. But, what about those that are US citizens? Why should we not recognize them as what they are? Hard working people that come to America to improve their way of living. Can we really blame them? Who wouldn't want to live in the greatest country on the face of the earth? Learning to speak some of their Languages will only enhance our relationships as they strive to learn our Language, too.
When you learn to speak a second language you will increase your chances of moving up the corporate ladder as well. Businesses today have gone global. It is not uncommon for corporations to have branches in many different countries. These businesses are constantly searching for bilingual individuals to fill important positions. The money paid to those capable of speaking two, three or more languages is phenomenal.
Natural emergencies have brought the need for speaking a second language into focus. Recently, a tornado outbreak in the midwest had local emergency management officials pleading for any one who could speak Spanish. Communications had become hectic because too few EMT's had bothered to learn Spanish.
Your own community has ethnic groups still struggling to learn our language. What would you be able to do in case of an emergency. Do you speak another language that would allow you to help? This year's increase in severe storms, the threat of terrorist attacks, an earth quake or any other natural disaster are just a few reasons to consider learning another language.
Of course, you don't need a disaster as a reason to learn. The feeling of pride you will have once you master a second language will never be matched. Why not decide today to learn to speak another language. If you can afford a private tutor, great! If not, there are several affordable courses available online and they will let you learn at your own pace at home.
