Body Language & Lying - Six Top, Must Know Body Language Signs That Will Tell You They're Lying

There are six main telling signs that someone is lying to you and they are easier to master then you could ever imagine. Once mastered you will be able to quickly and effectively know for sure when someone is taking you for a fool and regain control of a relationship or a negotiation.

We have all probably heard little snippets of information from friends, Books or the Internet that give us a very basic idea of some of the signs to look for when we believe someone is lying to us. The bad news is, is that relying on one or two body Language "tells" can often give false results and cause a lot of damage in a relationship or at work.

Below I will highlight the six main giveaways that with practice and further study will ensure that you will know when you are being lied to in the future.

1) Involuntary body signs.

These are signs we have probably learned from an early age and are telltale signs given off by a bad liar. They include sweating and blushing of the face. Unfortunately, as we learn to lie from an earlier age almost all people are able to hide the signs when under pressure.

2) Eye movements

When people lie they use a different side of the brain from when they are remembering a true event that's happened in the past. The eyes actually move to the side of the brain that is being used when a question is being answered. It's therefore quite easy to spot someone lying simply by observing their eye position when answering your question.

3) Facial expressions

Generally speaking, a true heartfelt emotion will affect both sides of someone's face evenly. When somebody smiles look for symmetry on their face as this will indicate a genuine emotion. When someone is faking a smile they tend to hold that smile as they have to think about it rather than feel it. When someone is genuinely feeling an emotion they do not have to think about these matters as it comes naturally and therefore the smile also appears natural.

4) Body movements

Generally speaking when someone is lying to you they are likely to fidget more than usual. They are trying so hard not to give away their guilt in other ways but ultimately the body will leak the truth subconsciously. Clearly some people are nervous and fidget a lot anyway, so you are looking for an increase in their normal behavior. Liars will want to hide or cover their body from you so don't expect to see a liar to stand in front of you when you ask questions. They may well stand to the side of you all stand with one foot slightly in front of the other and therefore reducing their profile.

5) Hand and arm signs

When someone is lying they tend to rein in their hand and arm movements. Most liars are aware that most folks have a basic understanding of body Language and will therefore actively hold back on any actions in case they give something away. There is one exception to this and that his hands to face movements which increase when someone is lying.

6) Feet and leg signals

Given the chance a liar will try and hide his feet either under a chair or a table. If this is not possible look for feet tapping as this is a very common signal that someone is finding the questions stressful. Also look out for leg crossing as the person tries to protect themselves from your questioning.

Taken randomly the signs will not give you a true indication of whether the person was talking to is lying. The above tips really need to be mastered before you can confidently assess someone's truthfulness. It is always best to err on the side of caution until you are sure you have understood all the body Language rules. It is certainly worth the time and effort to master these as it enables you to remain in total control of your home and work life with confidence.

Getting to Know the Body Language

Movements of the human body are separated into two categories. Conscious movements are made to perform an action, emphasize conversation or a statement. Unconscious movements are behind majority of signals made through the human body. These subconscious movements make up 93% of human communication. And these movements are small and involuntary. Subconscious movements consist of eye movements, facial expressions, gestures and body posture. These signals may be used to ascertain a person's state of mind or attitude.

The display of certain movements can be read. Signals can be established if the subject is intoxicated, amused, ecstatic, relaxed, bored, interested or angry. Other emotions that may be interpreted in a subject are shame, satisfaction, relief, pride, guilt, excitement, embarrassment, contentment, and contempt. Words can be used to mislead people from what the subject is actually thinking. The understanding of these signals can help a person establish a subject's true state of mind.

Kinesics is the study of the involuntary movements of the human body. These involuntary movements are triggered either by the subconscious or by biological reactions. When reading these cues, the gesture analyzers should take into consideration the biological reasons for such movement. Some samples of biological reactions are fight or flight actions and lack of interest due to the absence of survival or sexual interest. These must be considered when reading body Language for they can be misinterpreted when looking at subconscious cues. An example of this possible confusion is when someone clutches their arms together. This may be a signal that the person is trying to erect a wall defending them from the person or situation they are faced with. However, it could also be a biological signal that the person is feeling chill. When faced with conflict, this gesture could be understood as opposition. Understanding these factors is the key to properly identifying involuntary movements.

How you interpret body Language can significantly increase your conscious awareness of both the signals you transmit and the signals you observe from others. This can give you a significant advantage in the way you deal with other people, whether personally or professionally. Take note that understanding body Language is not only to be able to read the signals in other people, but more importantly to obtain better self-awareness and even self-control. You can improve or refine what your body says about you when you understand body Language. This way, you will be able to generate a positive improvement in your daily interactions with other people.

Going Cheap - English Language Courses in London

London, known worldwide as the capital city of the English Language, has long been an expensive place for overseas students to study the Language.

That has all now changed thanks to the credit crunch. English Language Schools in London and the UK in general are experiencing a real upswing in inquiries. Massive currencies fluctuations have made learning English in London now far cheaper especially for those armed with Euros or currencies such as the Yen to attend an English language school in London.

This trend is backed up by the Worldwide Cost of Living survey published by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which compares the cost of living in 140 major cities around the globe. The survey uses a range of different costs into account, for example property rental, hotel costs, entertainment such as theatre trips and right down to costs of food and drink. Crucially the costs take into account currency exchange rates, and this is where the big savings come into play for foreign students.

The survey has shown that London has slipped from joint 8th in 2008 to joint 27th in 2009, a long way below many European cities such as Paris, Frankfurt and Copenhagen, and Asian cities such as Tokyo which tops the cost of living list.

So what difference does this make to the average student Booking and English Language Course? Take a 7 week full time English course, costing say 2700 Franks with accommodation thrown in. Between April 2008 and April 2009 any paying in Euros would have found that they are paying about 15% less than before and that's before taking into account the great deals available now on flights and rentals.

The message for anyone considering studying English in London or the UK must be to take advantage now before the currencies swing back.
