Where Did The Spanish Language Originate?

Castile in the north of Spain began as a county with the
appointment of the first Count of Castile, (Count Rodrigo)
in 850. Castile was at that time a vassalage depending from
the kingdom of Leon, one of the early kingdoms prior to the
formation of the kingdom of Spain.

This is the area credited with the first development of the
Spanish Language.
From the time of the earliest recorded form of the Castilian
Language up to the 15th century it was generally known as
Old Spanish, while from the 16th century onwards it is
referred to as Modern Spanish.

After the decline of the Roman Empire in the 8th and 9th
centuries the Castilian Language developed from Vulgar Latin
(the Romance Language), which was spoken with dialectic
differences throughout the Roman Empire. The development of
the Castilian language, destined to become the Official
Spanish language, followed along a distinctly different path
from the language of eastern Iberia. The language was
influenced by Basque in the north and Mozarabic in the
south. The various dialects of Romance languages spoken in
the Iberian lands under Moorish influence were collectively
known as Mozarabic.

In 1035 the Castilian county became a kingdom, under the
reign of Fernando I. Shortly after, Fernando led a
coalition of Castile and Navarre in a war against Leon in
which the king of Leon was killed. As the slain king had no
offspring, Fernando, brother-in-law to the dead king,
claimed the crown of Leon. This brought about the first
union of the two kingdoms, Leon and Castile. They were
partitioned again in 1195 and finally re-united in 1230.

The name Castile simply means "land of castles". Early
castles dated from the 12th century, though there were some
Moorish castles earlier than that. The Moorish castles have
in the main been either lost to the ravages of time or used
as the foundation for building a more recent castle. As the
Castilian-Leon kingdom expanded, they continued building
castles to consolidate their hold on the newly acquired
land.

The kingdom of Leon-Castile continued to increase its power
and the fall of Toledo in 1085 marked the start of a decline
in the Moorish hold on the rest of the Iberian peninsular.
During the 16th century Spain became the unified Kingdom of
Spain with the Castilian version of the language confirmed
as the official Spanish language.

The Spanish language, (Espanola as it is officially known),
has increased in stature and popularity. Today Spanish is
spoken by in excess of 400 million people, including those
who speak it as a second language. The Spanish language is
recognized as an official language in such organizations as
the United Nations and the European Union among others.
Increasingly, when people wish to study a second language,
Spanish is the language they choose.

The Absolute Guide To Read Women Body Language - Don't Approach Women Without Reading This

Normally, there is a special dynamic operating in male-female relationships. While females tend to adopt a passive, receptive demeanor, males are more active and initiative. A typical example at a club is: Girls expect to be approached, while guys are expected to approach girls. A girl can do two things to improve her success: She can look her best, dress in high heels, push-up bras, etc., and she can also give inviting signs for a guy to approach her. A guy will be more likely to approach a girl who looks good in his eyes, but he will also go for a less hot one if she shows signs of interest and he sees the green light.

Thus, in a typical male-female interaction, the female will signal with her body Language and behavior that she is ready to proceed, while the male will respond to her signs, calibrate and advance accordingly. He will have to go through the steps and initiate, as she expects him to. Once again, this is about leading. No matter how good a conversationalist you are and no matter how attracted to you she is, you will always have to be the one initiating. Some aggressive and horny women will do it for you, but that's the exception and not the rule.

There are two kinds of female signals: conscious and subconscious ones. A girl will give conscious signals when she wants you to make your move. Subconscious signals are subtler and will be an automatic response to her feeling good in your company. It is very important to learn these signs. I'm sure you've laughed just as many times as I have at the typical scene in Hollywood movies: The girl is attracted to a guy; the guy is attracted to the girl, but the guy doesn't recognize the signs of interest she's sending him, which leads to a great deal of farce. Just by learning to recognize the signs women are sending, you will improve your success exponentially. In a club or in typical everyday situations, there will always be a few girls around you showing signs of interest and inviting you to approach them using body Language. If you recognize these girls and make your move, you will be likely to succeed.

You will see that sometimes certain signs can be misleading, and it's necessary to develop your intuition for such situations. For example, a waitress has to smile at everyone to get tips, and by accident, she could mislead you into thinking that she's attracted to you. To avoid this, you will need to fine-tune your intuition with experience and learn to "feel" whether she is really attracted to you or not. A professional table tennis player doesn't see the ball. He feels it. His hands move automatically while he is in a trance. A lot of practice will make you better at "feeling" the signs that women are giving, just as the table tennis player does with the ball.

So let's look at the most general conscious and subconscious signs that show she is attracted to you:

1. She's relaxed while sitting or standing and talking with you. Her arms are open and not closed; her legs are either wide apart or crossed with her feet pointing toward you.

2. She's comfortable in your company. When you lean closer to her, she stays in the same position and doesn't pull away.

3. She leans closer while talking with you or sits closer when you're sitting next to each other.

4. She smiles a lot, even laughing at your lamest jokes, or she compliments you on something unremarkable.

5. She touches you sometimes on your arms or shoulder when talking with you.

6. She fixes her clothes, applies more makeup in the restroom or exposes parts of her body, revealing skin and showing erotic body parts.

7. She rubs her wrists up and down, and she rubs, touches or strokes her cheek.

8. She plays with her hair, pushing her fingers through it or twirling a few curls in a slow, sensual motion.

9. She looks deep into your eyes while smiling, her pupils dilated. She blinks faster than usual or keeps looking into your eyes in a longing way, like your dog when you're about to feed him.

10. When you touch her or put your arms around her, she's comfortable with it; she might even snuggle closer to you.

11. When you extend your hand to her, she takes it and keeps holding it as if you are already a couple.

12. She bites her lips and licks them, showing her tongue, or she moistens her lips with lipstick. She puts a finger or nail into her mouth or over it in a sexual way - these are signs of sexual thoughts, and they are usually signs of arousal.

13. She rubs her legs together and presses them to the legs of the table or to your legs under the table - another sign of sexual arousal.

14. She plays with her wine glass, her jewelry or another object with a rubbing, stroking, sensual motion.

15. The way she sits or stands reflects your body language; she is mirroring you.

Of course, she can't be doing everything at the same time. But, if you encounter more than two or three of them (especially the more serious ones), she is likely to be heavily attracted to you and wanting you. A word of warning: Just as there are shy guys, there are also shy girls. They might have a harder time showing signs of interest and flirting with you. They might also try to hide these signs. You will recognize them from their girlish confusion.

And now let's see some negative body language, showing disinterest and less attraction to you:

1. She breaks eye contact and looks away when you try to look into her eyes.

2. She grimaces, showing that she is simply bored. She never smiles.

3. When you ask a question, she responds after a pause: "What did you say?" and it's obvious that she is thinking about something else or is somewhere else mentally.

4. There are long, awkward silences in your conversation, and she doesn't show any interest in breaking the silence or bringing up any new topics.

5. Her legs and arms are crossed; she is sitting at a distance, or she turns away from you. She leans back, and when you lean closer, she moves away or just acts as if she's uncomfortable.

6. She doesn't react to your jokes and doesn't laugh with you; she may express polite surprise.

And the list goes on. Although persistence is a good trait to have and sometimes by being persistent, you can recover from the most hopeless situations, the negative signs described above show that you've done something wrong, and it might be time to move on and search for another girl. Never be disappointed; success will come with determination and time.

10 Signs That He Likes You

You met this great guy and you've been dating each other for some time. Not in an exclusive relationship, but you have been spending time together. Phone calls that lasted for more than an hour, flirty smiles are exchanged.

You feel good about him.

Now is the million dollar question that you want to find out.

Does he like you? Is he into you, or not?

How to know the answer? What are the tell-tale signs that he is into you?

Well, besides using your woman's intuition which is not something I can describe here nor teach, I'll do my best to "simplify" this complicated thing call "love".

10 Signs That He Likes You

1. Watching the same movie twice

He's seen the movie. Although he wasn't very impressed with it, but because you haven't catch it he suddenly changed his tune and said he really would like to watch it a second time.

And so by the way, if you haven't seen it too, why not let's go catch it together, he asked.

You know his intention is then not on the movie, but the company really.

So girls, do not expose his true intentions. It's enough to know the underlying truth, be appreciative ok?

2. His car is playing songs that just sound too, familiar?

Because those are your favorites! You have merely casually mentioned to him once, and the next time he drives you, you're in for a musical feast.

Is he always so attentive to everyone's needs and preferences? Well, you observe how he interacts with others and you tell me.

3. He asks that question!

Well, he will try to be as casual and nonchalant about it as possible. But no matter how cool he acts, deep down inside he is burning and dying to know the answer to this question:

"So, are you single?"

If your answer is yes, then this will be the next one:

"No way. How can someone like you be single? You mean, you don't have a boyfriend?"

Now watch his body Language closely. If you notice he is feeling tensed up by now, and totally relieved when your answer is "No" then you get the message.

4. He asks for a follow-up date even before the date is over

Now if he isn't interested in you, why would a man be so anxious to "Book" your time for another date with him even when the date is only half-way through?

Unless you look like Jessica Alba, or you can give him a million-dollar job like Donald Trump. If you aren't either one of the two or belong to either one of the category, then this can be a clue to his heart...

5. Your name is not foreign to his friends

If you do get a chance to meet up with his friends, which you know you can create such opportunities, you'll get some nice juicy bits from them.

But this may not be very fool-proof, neither are all of these signs, but if his friends raise their eyebrows or grin sheepishly when he introduces you to them, then that means word has been around within that gang on someone in particular, which could very well be you.

6. He can't remove his eyes from you

Ok, we know that's not the kind of stare-through-your-clothes type, but rather a slightly more loving kind of gaze that speaks of admiration and liking.

If the eyes could speak, they may just pop this question on behalf of their owner "You are the most beautiful lady I've ever seen. Would you like to be more than friends?"

The best test? When a bombshell or super gorgeous babe sashays past, you need to alert him before he notices her. (Of course, this is really carrying it a little far ha ha.... what does it take to stop a man's roving eyes? I can't find the answer yet)

7. He prompts you

Every now and then, he will find a chance to ask you what type of guy you are attracted to and are looking for in a partner.

Unless he's doing what I'm doing (which puts me in a really privileged position to ask ha ha), what business is it for him to know what kind of man you like if not for the fact that he is secretly plotting his way to become the most suitable candidate?

Don't be surprised if he starts putting himself down or discrediting himself by saying things about him that don't fit into the list you described. He is testing waters to see what your reaction would be, which will give him some clues on how you feel for him.

For example you listed "having a good sense of humor and making you laugh" as one of the traits which you will be attracted to, and he says "Oh, I'm a boring guy actually. I don't know how to crack jokes or make girls laugh. I must be boring you then" be careful of what you reply him.

If you say "Ya, I don't think you are the type of humorous person either" versus "Oh is that so? But I never find you boring at all. In fact, I feel we have lots of things to chat about" he will either be secretly weeping in sorrow or jumping in joy .

By saying things like that, he is kind of "forcing" you to give a respond, and either way you will be giving away clues on how you feel. So girls, if you fancy this guy too, you know what kind of answer you should give, right?

8. He is doing you favors

Yes, he doesn't mind ferrying you around if he has a car. He will also volunteer to accompany you all the way to an out-of-the-way place to satisfy a sudden craving you have for a food delicacy that is sold there.

He wiil help you with your school work, express his interest in lending you a hand for errands you need to run, buy some things for your family etc.

If a man isn't interested in developing something further than friendship with you, unless he is too bored with his life or he's Mr Super Ultra Nice, then I wonder what could it be that prompts him to be everywhere when you need his help.

9. He's very anxious about celebrating special occasions.

Like Valentine's Day (if he asks you out on that day, I would really suspect his intention, wouldn't you?) and your birthday.

He would long to celebrate this special day with you, and preferably alone.

10. He buys you gifts

Sending gifts on no apparent occasion and for no reason is the easiest way for a man to declare his interest in a girl without verbalizing it. By giving you something, he is testing to see how you react. Usually he will do this when he still isn't sure of how you feel towards him, so at least he won't feel rejected if you reject his gift.

At the same time, he is hoping to make you happy with that gift. And if you are happy, he will be too!

Summarizing the above, they may not be 100% fool-proof scientifically proven signs to show he's into you. They came from pure experience and observation. I purposely didn't include things like body Language where he will check how he look before meeting you, pointing his leg and facing his body towards you etc because I just want to make this as non-scientific as possible.

So ladies, hope this gives you some clues to how this man who is appearing in front of you pretty often lately feels about you. Does he has only platonic friendship in mind, or something more?

Why is it Important to Learn a Foreign Language?

In today modern society, it is more than just "important" to learn a foreign Language; it is "SO VERY important." Think about it. How many people do you know (or see everyday) who can speak multiple Languages? Even if just a little, knowing a different language can bring you many benefits in life. Here are three main reasons why learning a foreign language is so important:

1. To improve your cognitive and analytical capabilities

-Researchers have shown that knowledge of a foreign language increases your creativity, problem solving, and conceptualizing skills because the process of learning a foreign language involves a variety of cognitive skills. For example, in standardized tests (such as SATs, ACTs, GREs, MCATs, and LSATs), people who have studied a second language have noticeably higher scores compared to those who are monolingual.

2. To increase employment potential

-Many employers nowadays are looking for more applicants who are multilingual. Especially in the business world, where trades in foreign countries are common everyday practices, knowing a foreign language will land you more quickly with a job. Dr. Dan Davidson, President of the American Council on International Education, noted that the "English language alone is probably sufficient if all we need to do is buy our products abroad, if we need to purchase foreign goods and services. But when it comes to selling a product abroad, you have to understand the psychology and the belief structure of your client." Thus, the first step to understanding other cultures is to SPEAK their languages.

3. To enhance your enjoyments in life

-Now here is an obvious reason. Lets say that you are traveling abroad. Would it not be awesome if you could understand what the menus in the restaurant are referring to? Learning a foreign language will definitely enhance your traveling expeditions and will make your stay more feasible and fun. It will also allow you to make friends from different ethnical backgrounds and will bring you closer to the friends that you already have.

Now you may ask, "What foreign language should I learn?"

That is a very good question because with our business world today, there are two foreign languages that will be the most beneficial to you. First is French; then comes Spanish.

"Why French or Spanish?"

French is the second most frequently taught language in the world after English because these two are the only two languages considered to be global. The US State Department released a recent listing of international jobs on July 3, 2007 that noted more positions (125) requiring or preferring French than another other languages. Second on the listing was Spanish with 31. With Spanish, it is the official language of more countries in the world than any other languages. Look at any instruction guides or item's descriptions. I guarantee that Spanish is on there.

"Will I really be able to learn a foreign language, such as French and/or Spanish?"

Yes! You can learn any foreign language if you devote enough time and effort into it. If you do not have the time, then learn it on your FREE time. Instead of watching that soap opera or going to the bar, try sitting at home for half and hour and going over your foreign language studies. I assure you that in about two to three months worth of time, you will have a pretty good handle of your new language.

"What's next?"

After all your studies and as a reward for your effort, take a long vacation to the country of your language to test out your skills (and to sharpen them as well)! Go ahead and enjoy yourself! You will then realize how much fun you have been missing out. Learning a new foreign language is really "SO VERY" important after all.

Language Acquisition vs Language Learning

According to linguists (i.e. scientits who engage in the scientific study of human Language)there is an important distinction between Language acquisition and language learning.

As you may well have noticed, children acquire their mother tongue through interaction with their parents and the environment that sorrounds them. Their need to communicate paves the way for language acquisition to take place. As experts suggest, there is an innate capacity in every human being to acquire language. By the time a child is five years old, s/he can express ideas clearly and almost perfectly from the point of view of language and grammar. Although, parents never sit with children to explain to them the workings of the language, their utterances show a superb command of intricate rules and patterns that would drive an adult crazy if s/he tried to memorize them and use them accurately. This suggests that it is through exposure to the language and meaningful communication that a first language is acquired, without the need of systematic studies of any kind.

When it comes to second language learning in children, you will notice that this happens almost identically to their first language acquisition. And even teachers focus more on the communicative aspect of the language rather than on just rules and patterns for the children to repeat and memorize. In order to acquire language, the learner needs a source of natural communication.

The emphasis is on the text of the communication and not on the form. Young students who are in the process of acquiring a second language get plenty of "on the job" practice. They readily acquire the language to communicate with classmates.

In short, we see this tendency in which second language teachers are quite aware of the importance of communication in young learners and their inability to memorize rules consciously (although they will definitely acquire them through a hands-on approach just as they did with their mother tongue)

Unfortunately, when it comes to adult students, a quick look at the current methodologies and language courses available clearly shows that communication is set aside, neglected or even disregarded. In almost all cases, courses revolve around grammar, patterns, repetitions, drillings and rote memorization without even a human interlocutor to interact with.

The very same courses that promise you language independence and the ability to communicate upon completion of the courses do NOT offer you a single chance to do engage in meaningful conversations. How many times have you bought or read about "the ultimate language course on CD" in which the learner simply has to sit in front of a computer to listen to and repeat words and phrases time and again. That is not communication. That is the way you train a parrot! The animal will definitely learn and repeat a few phrases and amuse you and your friends, but it will never ever be able to communicate effectively.

How could you be expected to communicate if you are never given the chance to speak with a real person? Language without real communication is as useless as Saint Valentine's day without lovers or Children's day without kids.

In some other scenarios, in which there is a teacher, the work done in class is mostly grammatically oriented: tenses, rules, multiple choice exercises and so on and so forth. Is this similar to the way in which a child "acquires a language?" Definitely not. No wonder why so many people fail in acquiring a second language naturally. Simply because whatever they are doing is highly unnatural and devoid of meaning to them. This is the field of language learning.

Language learning as seen today is not communicative. It is the result of direct instruction in the rules of language. And it certainly is not an age-appropriate activity for your young learners_ as it is not for adults either. In language learning, students have conscious knowledge of the new language and can talk about that knowledge.

They can fill in the blanks on a grammar page. Research has shown, however, that knowing grammar rules does not necessarily result in good speaking or writing. A student who has memorized the rules of the language may be able to succeed on a standardized test of English language but may not be able to speak or write correctly.

As teachers, it is our duty to make sure that our students "acquire" rather than "learn the language." What can we do to achieve this higher goal? In our next mini-article we will explore simple effective and highly innovative ways to turn our learning environment into real language acquisition setting.

Reflection (*2)

Read the article thoroughly.

What do you think is more desirable, to acquire a language or to learn a language?

What differences between acquiring and learning a language could you pinpoint?

In your personal experience, do you feel you've been acquiring or learning a language? Or maybe both? Explain your reasons.

Body Language - Ten Stages of Physical Intimacy

One of the things I get asked so often as Sex Appeal and Sexual Confidence Coach is: "How do I know when it's time to take things to the next level?"

Here are ten silent speech steps leading from first advances to getting physically intimate. Hopefully next time you know what to look out for and how to respond. Remember, with body Language, look for clusters of behaviour rather than one isolated move.

1. Eyeing the body. When a formal encounter becomes more friendly, gaze drops from the upper business triangle (right eye - left eye - nose and back to right eye) to the lower parts of the face and upper parts of the body. Be alert for this shift which sometimes involves the other person changing his or her body posture including moving back slightly to take in more of your face.

2. Eyeing the eyes. As intimacy increases and so does the amount of eye contact, resulting in those long soulful looks. A refusal to return eye-contact in this erotically charged moment sends a message that you are not certain or are uninterested.

3. Hand touches hand. Contact is usually light but lingering. It may also be disguised as accidental touching or socially accepted behaviour like placing hand beneath the elbow to guide him or her through a crowded area.

4. Hand touches shoulder. Once again this message can be hidden within a socially accepted behaviour. Up to this point either side can withdraw from the encounter and pretend it didn't happen. If you are the one who made the advance you do not lose too much pride. But once this silent speech has been crossed there can be no going back without suffering a severe blow to your pride.

5. Arm encircles waist. This signals a desire for far greater intimacy. If this is accepted then things move pretty quickly to the next step...uh-um!

6. Mouth Touches Mouth. Once a kiss is exchanged, kissing chemical information is passed on from one person to the other. Kissing adds another sense to the encounter besides smell - that of taste. Taste is not just about saliva but also about body temperature.

The temperature of a normal, healthy human being is 37° C ( 98.4° F), but skin temperature is always lower than this and varies according to our emotional state. When we are anxious or afraid this temperature drops. If we are relaxed or sexually aroused, the temperature increases. During the more intimate stages of a sexual encounter, the fall in body heat sends a message to our sexual partner who interprets it - usually correctly - as lack of interest, dislike, unease or disapproval. People who are emotionally cold are also likely to be physically cold. When a man or woman is described as "hot stuff" or we speak of a "warm embrace" it may well be almost literally true. As they become more passionate "hot people" really do get hot and their partner reads this - correctly - as revealing their emotional state as well.

7. Hand caresses head. Usually women tend to reach for the head before men. Hand caressing head indicates increasing trust between two people because heads are extremely vulnerable - only those we feel close to can touch without us jumping or protesting.

8. Hand fondles body. This is either through clothes or probing under them. Some people close their eyes to concentrate more on their senses of temperature and smell. But keeping eyes open and maintaining eye contact is even more powerful. Not only are you you using your visual, touch, sound and taste senses you also are using the smell sense.

During physical intimacy, not only is sense of smell powerful in evoking emotions, it is also becomes more sensitive to the unique signature smell of our sexual partner. Odours act powerfully on the nervous system arriving at the part of the brain responsible for memory and for preparing us for pleasurable experiences.

The best advice when anticipating this stage of physical intimacy is to use any perfume sparingly and to allow natural body odour to work for you by not disguising or covering it with man-made products. The better feel each of you has for the other as a person, the more easily and happily it will happen.

Guys: Let her become familiar with it. Women especially those who are not taking the oral contraceptive pill have a far greater sense of smell and are drawn to the fresh male odour any day.

Ladies: Let him smell you. Encourage him to smell you around your period. Its the closest your body comes to estrus or heat.

9. Mouth caresses body. When this stage is reached, sexual intercourse is very likely to take place - under the right circumstances.

10. Hand caresses genitals. At this stage the only remaining stage is genital - to - genital contact.

Just two more things about body odour:

1. Sniffing in your partner is a highly sensual affair, however that bacteria fertile breeding ground with the unpleasant acrid penetrating and pungent stale smell of unwashed body is likely to counter any benefits from pheromones. To produce more of that clean body odour, take a good shower before you start exercising and skip the shower after. After you've built up a sweat, let him/her get to know your natural odour.

2. When two people sniff each other out, there is a period of time - on average lasting for around 18 months to three years when the chemical is produced in the brain in large quantities and during this period passion and sexual activity is at its height. What keeps us hooked up is the other person's individual body scent. But like all good things, the positive effects wear off after a certain period of time. Divorce rates peak at around four years into marriage.

Examples On Body Language And Their Meanings

Body Language is a vital part of the whole communication process. It can determine either a positive or negative reaction from the one you are talking to.

Examples on body Language may come from any part of the body: eyes and eyebrows, lips, arms, and any other part that the receiver of the message sees.

It is important to be aware of the different body actions that you do while conversing (or even when not speaking) to avoid unnecessary and even unpleasant reactions. Here are some examples on body language and the ways your body parts can manifest themselves.

Eyes And Eyebrows

The eyes are said to be the windows to our soul. Though it may sound too cryptic and deep, it holds a bit of truth that the person you are talking to may see some of the thoughts that you are holding back, or perhaps even misinterpret your eye's actions from what you would like him or her to understand.

Even the position and movement of your eyebrows are some of the most noticed elements when you communicate with a person face-to-face.

A classic example on body language that conveys an apprehensive or burdened mood is when you have your eyebrows converging in the middle, as with frowning. Even if you talk softly and slowly, the person whom you are interacting with may think that you are almost at your temper's threshold.

Lips

Another body part that is usually interpreted for the probable mood of a person is the mouth.

Though we have different shapes and positions for our lips, particularly as to how they form, there are some universal notions regarding how we would most probably feel while in a conversation.

Here are some examples on body language of the lips.

A retracted lower lip that is almost bit by the upper teeth is usually a sign that the person is holding back and waiting for affirmation or action from the other person.

On the other hand, a retracted upper lip that's bit by the lower teeth usually signifies a person who's holding back and keeping mixed reactions, as with a reaction to the message being conveyed by the other.

Such small movements of the lips have significant implications to the person seeing them and may serve as a basis to either continue or halt the communication process.

Extremities

The arms and legs are considered responsible for a larger concept of body language, as these are more profound and have a heavier impact.

Crossing the arms over the chest usually signifies doubt, mistrust, impatience, or closed-mindedness. Coupled with the body resting on one leg and having the other stepped away and angled, the whole idea of this unwelcoming look is heightened.

Examples on body language may be corrected with appropriate gestures by practicing and internalizing how you would probably feel if you were the one seeing those actions you are doing. Actions often speak louder than words, so it's best to always be conscious of your gestures and movements.

Attraction and Body Language Signs You Must Know

Majority of men in all over the world has lesser penchant for words compared to women. They relay on simple body Language to show their anger, happiness, sadness and even attraction towards women. Men who do not know how to express their emotions well be more prone to commit domestic violence towards their spouse. This is a big show of action. However, men are also unknowingly sending out smaller signals throughout the day.

Men's feeling can be sent from their face, their hand gestures, legs position and body posture. Attraction and body Language goes hand in hand. It is difficult for a man to hide their attraction towards a woman especially when he is also sexually yearning for her. Hiding sweaty palms in pockets, using their handkerchief to wipe their forehead, these are all signs from men who are nervous when faced with women they are attracted to. Subtle actions like winking or lifting of eye brows can be a cute playful sign to show women that they are giving them extra attention or they are amused. When men felt intimidated or cornered during conflicts, they will fold their arms across their chest which acts as a protective barrier of sort. Men in serious thought will stroke their chin; when in deep complex thought will pinch the bridge of their nose; and when in frustration will pull their hair or clench their fist.

Body signs allow men to show how strong they are, to rise above others and to let women know they are searching for a mate. The stronger the maleness from their body language, the more women will be attracted to them. Body gesture is not something that can be taught. They are developed as men grow up. A born leader will have body gesture of a leader while a cowardly wimp will have body language of a wimp. Women can read it and detect what kind of man the person is.

Men's body gesture is the best kind of straight forward non-verbal communication. Largely perfected for hunting and mating in the ancient times, men are still unconsciously using it to hunt for their prey. Giving long eye contact is a sure way to let a woman know that he has his eyes and heart glued on her. Eyes tilted to one side or focusing on other things will show that the man is bored and has his attention elsewhere. When a man is lying, he will usually make a lot of hand gestures and touching of face. An annoyed man will stand with legs apart ready to launch an attack.

Body language signs are easily interpreted when it comes from a man. They are not known for pretending by using body language. That is why most male criminals easily gave away their guilt when confronted during interrogations. Women on the other hand can be good actors and fake emotions. They can cry even when they are not sad or smile when they are not happy.

Benefits of Learning the English Language

Communication plays a vital role in today's global challenge, be it in business or personal affairs. Among the often used mediums for communication, the English Language serves as a pivotal force in bridging barriers in communication which can make or break international relations and state of affairs. Of the thousand or so business transactions that occur around the world in any given day, English dominates the front lines.

A Senior manager from Canada instructs business partners in the Philippines and Korea. An office manager from the United Kingdom drops a phone call to his contact in Japan, inquiring about his shipment of computer chips. In both examples, English primarily directs a surreptitious existence in the formation of global awareness and progress.

English is definitely a widely spoken Language, brandishing 400,000,000 individuals who speak it as a second Language and 350,000,000 or so claims it as their native tongue. Though the numbers do not necessarily imply the dominance of the English Language or the exact number of users, it does, however depict the significance of English in the mainstream of universal growth.

If you're from the United States, Canada or from any other native English-speaking nation, and you happen to visit an Asian country like Korea or the Philippines, you'll never feel left out as more and more people today try their hardest to attain a command of the English language. Proficient speakers of English, as a second language, can be found everywhere.

Most paradigms have shifted, giving importance to the English language, as it had before. Schools have begun to focus on providing quality English instruction to students in elementary, high school, and even college to prepare their students to be globally competent. Schools in Korea have made it a point to hire native English speakers to properly educate Korean students in English. This task is met with the goal of producing quality English speakers, who can communicate and be equally competitive in the business arena. Among those institutions that stand out in their drive to educate students in the English language; Worknplay (worknplay.co.kr), provides quality ESL training to it's teachers. It strives to provide quality English teachers to schools all over Korea, making students competitive in their academics and understanding of international affairs.

With this in mind, Asian countries should also take the foothold in improving the linguistic skills of their students, primarily the English language. Mastery of various languages will prepare everyone to be globally competitive.

How to Read a Man's Body Language to Tell If He's Falling For You

If you have the ability to read a man's body Language you can easily tell what he's feeling for you. The most challenging part of a relationship, for many women, is having a clear understanding of whether or not her man is falling in love with her. Once you understand what you need to be looking for, in terms of his behavior, you can have a much clearer picture of where his heart is at.

When you want to read a man's body Language pay special attention to how he holds your hand. Although not all men enjoy holding hands, many do and the way they do it speaks volumes about how they feel about you. If he loosely cradles your hand in his and lets you pull it away without any resistance, he's not that emotionally invested in you. When a man feels close to a woman he tends to weave his fingers within hers when they are holding hands. He also reaches for her hand at every opportunity he gets. If the man in your life is doing this, it's a really great sign.

There's so much to be said for eye contact and you should never discount this. When you want to read a man's body Language pay extra attention to his eyes. Men who are crazy about a woman will look directly into her eyes. They'll try and hold her gaze for as long as possible. If a man isn't that interested, you'll see his eyes darting around the room when you are talking. He'll rarely make direct eye contact and if you do, he'll look away quickly. This says a lot about how close a man feels to you. In this case, the eyes are a window to the man's heart.

Understanding the Psychology of Body Language

Body Language has been known to have a significant impact on interpersonal relationships. Even simple hand gestures can be interpreted in several different ways. To complicate matters more, other body movements and facial expressions can change the meaning of a hand gesture. Therefore, it may not be as easy as it seems to read body Language.

People often do not realize it, but their body movements are an example of unintentional behaviors that can give away their thoughts to others. Because different personality types exhibit different behaviors, you need to be conscious of how you move, as many times people are able to measure you by the behaviors you display.

It's important to remember that the gestures we call body Language not only tell us a lot about other people, but these physical expressions of what we are thinking can tell us more about ourselves as well. Body language might be described as a mirror to the soul because what we are really feeling is normally reflected in our posture and physical movements. How we carry ourselves can actually tell others what emotions we are experiencing.

The interesting thing about non-verbal communication is that it is a product of our biology, environment, and culture. Maybe that's why body language can cue others about our attitudes. We may inherit certain traits, which influence how we project ourselves to others, yet we tend to use different forms of non-verbal communication depending on our relationships with others. For instance, you likely present yourself differently to colleagues at work than you do to your family members. Perhaps because the comfort zone varies, you become more cautious in particular situations, affecting the ways in which you react.

No doubt there is power in the way that you physically present yourself to others. While some gestures are intended, many of the body's responses when we communicate with others seem to be more involuntary in nature. Unfortunately, unconscious body language sometimes causes us to reveal things that we do not want others to know about us. There are a number of physical signs that can give others clues about our emotional state or about what we might be feeling.

Whether we realize it or not, we observe and process the body language of others, especially when talk. Facial expressions and hand gestures add more meaning to the conversation. If we were not aware of these things, another person's words probably would not have the same impact.

One way to interpret the signals of others more accurately is to become more conscious of your own. Pay attention to your gestures and movements as you talk. Try to see the connection between your non-verbal communication and the words that you use to express a thought. By learning to read your own body language, you can begin to have a better understanding of the interactions, which you have with others.

Children are a prime example of how our innate body language works. Young children especially frequently communicate their feelings in a non-verbal way, even after they begin to develop vocabulary. You can usually tell by a child's actions if she is upset or unhappy. Toddlers and preschoolers seem to have a natural aptitude for expressing themselves physically. Likewise, babies and young children become very good at reading our body language.

Interestingly enough, the gestures that children develop as a way to communicate their needs may actually help their brains develop contributing to verbal communication later on. From the start, infants pay close attention to an adult's face focusing on the eyes when you talk to them. How do they know to do this? Genetics is the most logical reason, so perhaps the eyes really are the windows to the soul!

The Advantages Of Sign Language

Sign Language is not just a random collection of gestures... it is a full-blown Language in its own right, complete with its own grammatical rules. Each country or region has its own sign Language, as different from each other as English is from Spanish. Each version of sign language is somewhat linked to the spoken language in its region. For example, American sign language does share similarities with English, even though it is its own language.

Sign language is not based on sentences like English, but on phrases and ideas. When translating sign language into English, for example, some words will have a direct translation. Others find no adequate translation for the true meaning, just like translating Japanese to English, or English to Arabic.

The written history of sign language begins in France in the 18th century. Charles-Michel de l'Epee founded the first ever public school for deaf children. Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet founded the first American school for the deaf in 1817, and his son, Edward Miner Gallaudet, founded the first and only liberal arts college in the world for the deaf in 1857. In 1864, its name became Gallaudet University, and it remains the only such school of higher learning in the world today.

In any sign language, the words are made in gestures and expression, rather than sounds and letters. Expressions are just as important as the gestures. They build upon the meaning of the gestures to convey more information than the gestures could alone.

In some ways, sign language is better than the spoken word... communication can occur in areas where speaking is not appropriate (in places of worship or while hunting), not allowed (in recording studios or other places where speaking is disruptive) or physically impossible (underwater, or in places that are too loud to hear speech).

The advantages of knowing sign language in addition to a spoken language are many. Communication becomes possible on many levels with the deaf community, with other people either hearing or not in any of the above situations, as well as many more.

Being able to serve the deaf community may also increase your business. Approximately 22 out of every 1000 persons is deaf or hearing impaired.

You may even meet a new best friend that you never would have tried to communicate with before you learned sign language.

Teaching your baby sign language can decrease frustration for both you and your baby, and increase parent-child bonding. The possibilities are endless when you increase your means of communication.

Language Used in King Lear to Show Characterization

William Shakespeare, King Lear

The use of Language in defining characterization in the play; King Lear

In King Lear by William Shakespeare, the characterization of the traits can be observed by the use of its Language. Such use of Language is like the application of imagery, metaphor, simile, and other kind of figurative language in the text that could portray the characters' trait. The other figurative language is consist of paradox, personification and hyperbole.

The use of imagery in King Lear could be found as animal characteristic that is applied in the character's dialogue to refer to other person or to speak for oneself. When Lear said "Come not between the Dragon and his wrath" (I, i, 121), he could be read as an arrogant man with full of confidence. The use of dragon as the imagery shows great power and viciousness as dragon is known as a most powerful monster in myth. Thus, it is imagined Lear as a man who is capable of causing immense disaster.

Other than that, there is also animal imagery spoken by Fool, who throw a sarcastic remark to Lear "Truth's a dog must to kennel; he must be whipped out when the Lady's Brach may stand by th'fire and stink" (I, iv, 110 - 112), he is actually referring the Lady's Brach to Lear's two elder daughters. Brach is a hound bitch which is associated with flattery, while the other dog is whipped and should belongs to it's kennel, the brach gets to sit by the fire. They had indeed flatter Lear to the extent of foolishness. Fool is indicating that Goneril and Regan flatter to gain their part of land, while Cordelia speaks of truth but is disclaim as a daughter.

In Act 1, Lear has cursed Goneril, "...she may feel How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is To have a thankless child!..." (I, iv, 287 - 288). Lear has cursed Goneril for her to be childless and if it is not, she would be present with a child that gives burden to her all life. By this line, Lear has also meant to say that Goneril is the thankless child and the cause she made to her father is much more painful than a serpent's bite. A serpent's bite may kill at once, but what more can be worse than death, except the great pain and suffering one must endure which made one longed for death. This is how Goneril is being portrayed, the cause of suffering worse than death itself.
From this line and the line when Lear disowns Cordelia "...Here I disclaim all my paternal care, Propinquity and property of blood, And as a stranger to my heart and me..." (I, i, 111 - 114) show that Lear is a rash person, a man with a lot of curses in hand. This could also indicate that Lear is undergoing his time of old age, although by the end of the play he could still be able to carry Cordelia's body which is an achievement for an old man.

"...like a vulture..." (II, iv, 133), is what Lear told Regan of her sister Goneril is like the ferocious bird that feeds on flesh. Lear is indicating of Goneril's cruelty on him which he explained as though Goneril feeds on Lear's heart. This is just really indicating that Goneril has made an action of banishing Lear out of her castle and causes the man to feel hurt by his daughter's mean deed. This line could also be the use of hyperbole in the text. That is to make an overstatement on Goneril's feeding on Lear's heart.

There is also another bird imagery that explains much the same as the vulture. Lear identifies his daughters as 'Pelican daughters' (III, iv, 76). Pelican younglings would peck their parents during feeding time and it is thought that the younglings attack its parent in order to feed on its parent's flesh and blood. In a way, this explains Goneril and Regan action in banishing away their own father after gaining what they wanted from him. They peck him hard that could eventually lead to his senility and in powerless degree.

There is also another reference of the two elder daughters' characteristic which is made by Kent, "...To his dog-hearted daughters, these things sting His mind venomously...", (IV, iii, 45 - 46). Dog-hearted is defined as pitiless and the action of stinging is like a bee that stings venomous poison which could be define wholly as pitiless daughters that wish to cause worst damage to their own father.

Other than animal imagery, there is also other imagery involved in defining the characterization of the characters. For an instance, Cordelia is said to be 'The jewels of our father' (I, i, 267) indicating that she has been the favourite out of the three to Lear. Though we know that Cordelia does not much with words, we could tell that she gains Lear's favouritism by her own actions which shown her true sincerity.

Gloucester has used the nature imagery and as well as animal imagery which signify Regan and Cornwall's cruelty. "...Rash boarish fangs. The sea, with such storm...he holp the heavens to rain. If wolves had at thy gate howled that dearn time..." (III, vii, 55 - 64) reveals Regan and Cornwall's brutality towards Gloucester. Their violence is portrayed like boar and wolves. Their actions in plucking Gloucester's eyes out are wild like a stormy sea. However, Gloucester shows his belief to the astronomical and divine power by believing that the treatment he faced could even make the heaven cry.

In King Lear, there is also the use of paradox in the text to show characterization. This could be found when France made a statement on Cordelia "Fairest Cordelia, that art most rich, being poor; Most choice, forsaken; and most loved, despised!" (I, i, 249 - 250). France's choice of words shows the opposite of each point on Cordelia. She is most rich with love but is poor in wealth, she has the most choice to choose her groom, but now she is abandoned and, she was most loved by Lear, but now is despised by her own father.

The use of metaphor in King Lear could be found when Cordelia meet her father who has gone senile, "Crowned with rank fumiter and furrow-weeds, With hardocks, hemlocks, nettles, cuckoo-flowers..." (IV, iv, 3 - 5), explains Lear's behaviour at the moment of time. He was crowned with bitter and poisonous flowers as if reflecting the causes of his insanity. The poisonous 'stings' and the bitter experiences he faced caused by his other two daughters had actually drove him to madness. He might have chosen these flowers and weeds particularly because he found them related to his wretched feelings.

With the figurative language used in this play, it shows the traits of each character well. Other than making it straight forward as how Goneril addresses Fool as all-licensed Fool, Shakespeare has made it more visual and fully lived the characteristics. One may see the traits as differently from others, but the end of the play, one still would agree that Lear is the tragic hero, Cordelia as the loving daughter, Goneril and Regan as the evil sisters.

Property Management Fees Explained

When you hire a property management company to serve as the liaison between yourself and your tenants, you want to be sure you're getting the best possible property management services for the money. The services a property management company provides can range from ala carte to an all-in-one inclusive package. Along with that comes an array of fees for each. There is no set in stone fee structure we can provide you. But we can educate you on what common fees to expect and what each is commonly for. In the end it will be up to you to compare company fee structures and choose the best one that fits within your budget. Below are some of the most common fees and what service they provide.

Commission

This is an ongoing monthly fee charged to the owner to compensate the property manager for the responsibilities of overseeing the management of their property. This fee can vary from as little as 3% to over 15% of the monthly gross rent. In place of a percentage some managers may charge a flat monthly amount which again can vary from $50 to over $200 per month. All property management companies generally charge this fee.

Lease-Up or Setup Fee

This fee is charged to the owner to compensate the property manager for their initial time invested and resources used in setting up an owners account; showing property and/or other activities resulting in tenant placement. I guess you could look at it as a "finders fee" for placing a tenant in your property. Once a tenant has been placed and first rent income comes in, the property manager will deduct this fee from the rent proceeds. Some property managers have been known to require this fee upfront prior to tenant procurement. Usually this fee is non-refundable once the property manager has started the process of tenant procurement or any legwork has been initiated with the property. This fee can vary from none to as much as the first months rent, and usually is a one-time fee per tenant.

Lease Renewal Fee

This fee is charged to the owner when a property manager renews a current tenants lease and covers the costs of initiating paperwork or communication involved in implementing the new lease document. A property manager may also justify this fee if they perform a year end inspection of property. This fee can vary from none to $200 or higher, and may be charged every time a lease renewal is implemented.

Advertising Costs

Depending upon the property management company's contract, either they will pay the advertising costs or the owner or they could split the costs. If the manager is willing to cover this cost, most likely they will charge the lease-up or setup fee as outline above. If the management company covers this cost make sure to find out what type advertising or marketing of your property is included. If it's placing your listing on their own web site and other free online classified sites you may not be getting your monies worth. They are many good rental or tenant resource online web sites that bring in qualified tenants for a reasonable fee and you will want to consider these. And don't forget about print media, yard signs, listing on the MLS or even an open house. Nothing is worst than having your property vacant, bringing in no money only because you or your property manager skimped on advertising.

Maintenance Mark-up Charges

This is one of those costs you may never really of known about or had it disclosed to you. A "Mark-up" is a charge over and beyond the final bill on maintenance and/or repair work done to your property initiated by your property management company when using their vendors or in-house maintenance staff. This should be disclosed in your Manager/Owner contract which usually will state the markup as a percentage above the final invoice from vendor. For example, your manager had to call a plumber to replace the dishwasher in your rental property. Total charges for completing the job: $400. If your property manager contract states you will incur a 10% markup on all maintenance work the actual cost to you will be $440. Just one of those things to be aware of as these all eat into your profits.

Early Cancellation Fee

The dreaded "3 months and no tenant". Your property manager insist he or she's doing everything they can to find you a tenant. But here it is 3 months and still no tenant; what do you do. Well, look at your Manager/Owner contract and that might be your deciding factor. I am not a fan of this fee, and believe it to be an unnecessary fee and for you manager out there this could be the deal breaker. I'll tell you why; if a property manager is doing their due diligence and keeping the owners in the loop as far as decision making, market conditions and communication lines open an owner will not be second guessing his property managers abilities. The odds of this scenario happening is unlikely but you must be prepared for it. A cancellation fee can range from none to over $500. To be fair, some managers legitimately deserve this fee especially if they have pocketed advertising costs, incurred lots of legwork and time invested in your property.

"You've Got To Be Kidding Me" Fees - These are ones I have personally had the pleasure of running into.

Your property is vacant, but we still will charge our monthly commission or a small flat fee.
"A For-Rent Yard Sign Fee". I believe this was $25/mo.
"Preventive Maintenance Fee". This was to cover the "just in case" and changing out A/C filters. If "just in case" never happens they still pocket the money. I believe this was $20/mo and I still was charged for filters.

In Summary

Read your Manager/Owner contract, understand what you are signing, ask lots of questions and know what the fees will buy you in services. A good real estate lawyer can help in negotiating the terms in a contract that suit both parties. These contracts are not set in stone. If your property manager will not negotiate, there are other property management companies that are eager to earn your business.

How To Say I'm Sorry In Japanese

Learning how to offer your aplogy and ask for forgiveness in Japanese can be very useful when you did or say something bad or harmful to another person by accident. In such cases you want to say that you're sorry and if it was serious, you should ask them for forgiveness.

The most polite way to say I'm sorry is to say sumimasen. Sumimasen has many meanings but basically they all mean the same thing. You can use sumimasen as excuse me too.

Sumimasen. Kore wa ikura desu ka?

Excuse me, how much is this?

Sumimasen!

I'm sorry!

Sumimasen can also be used as thank you. You usually say sumimasen as a way to politely thank someone for taking the trouble to do something for you.

Another basic Japanese word for offering an apology is Gomen. Using gomen by itself can be a little informal and not to polite. To make it sound more polite, you should say gomen nasai.

Gomen nasai. Daijoubu desu ka?

I'm sorry. Are you alright? (After bumping into someone).

Gomen gomen, kondo harau dakara.

I'm sorry, I will pay you next time.

Gomen kudasai! Dareka imasen ka?

Excuse me! Anyone home?

Another way to casually say I'm sorry is to use the Japanese word warui. Warui means bad literally. You can think of it as fault.

Suman, ore ga warukatta.

I'm sorry, my bad (it was my fault).

Zenbu omae ga warukatta deshou.

It was all your fault.

See how easy it is to say I'm sorry in Japanese? As a rule of thumb you will want to use the polite form for people you respect and those who are older than you. You can use the informal form among your friends or anyone who don't find casual Language.

Five Most Accurate Body Language Interpretations of the Way You Walk

Did you know that three miles an hour is the standard walking speed of an average adult. And if we are fortunate enough not to be physically immobilized in any way through out our lifetime, we will all be able to walk from the age of two and continue to do so until we part this life. Many interesting clues to a person's character can be learned just from observing the way they walk. The way a person move when he or she is walking is associated with a number of criteria.

Levels of fitness, mood, emotion and body type plays a considerable factor contributing to the various kinds of stride, posture and speed of a person's movement. Along with other prominent characteristics, the walking manner of a person can be inherited directly from the parents. The next time when you have the opportunity to watch people promenading in groups, similar posture and way of moving among family members usually will be quite noticeable.

Generally when happy people are walking, they have a certain lively way of springing along with a lightness in their steps. In the contrary, a dejected person will walk with a bowed postured and shuffling slowly with heavy feet. Whereas a quick pace and upright posture will suggest a confident individual who has a strong sense of direction in life.

Always remember to take background and environment into account when observing someone's walking pace. It varies from country to country, culture to culture, and city to countryside. For instance, the speed adopted in a dense and populated city will definitely be much faster than a small town in a suburban area because of the vast difference of general lifestyles. In most cases, posture is still considered as a very reliable indicator.

1 The Folded Arms Walk

During when the weather is warm or hot, walking while the arms are folded generally suggests that the person is in a protective and defensive mode. This also explains a lot why most women will take on this posture whenever they are walking alone in a crowded street packed with strangers. There are also men, when feeling insecure at an unfamiliar place adopts the very same posture too.

It doesn't really matter if the arms are tightly folded, clutching the body, or even loosely wrapped around the body, these arm positions are the direct evidence of the person's uncertainty, apprehension, anxiousness, and lack of confidence. These supposedly self-hugging gestures are actually the individual's way of giving oneself a physical reassurance.

2 The Hands In The Pockets Walk

When people put their hands in their pockets, basically it just means that they are feeling cold at that time, especially if it is on a chilly or windy day. But when this is put in the context of a person's characteristic, it usually indicates a very private and introverted individual. This person conceals his or her own feelings and personality from the outside world and yet at the same time can be cynical and judgmental of others.

He or she will often walk with a lowered head combined with a draggy and inconsistent pace. The negative gestures performed here denotes a depression in the person. And if this depression was motivated by anger from the very beginning, the walk will include plenty of kicking at small objects on the ground. Occasionally even the imaginary ones are not exempted.

3 The Deep Thoughts Walk

People who are thinking about something deeply when they are walking will display a bowed head, and often gazing at the ground with unfocused eyes. The gesture over here may suggest that such people are having depression, but in fact they are just walking slowly to provide themselves the concentration on their thoughts.

This posture will seem withdrawn to others because the people here do not want any distractions from anywhere to avert the attentions from their deep thoughts at that moment. Walking up and down will be a very common practice of this lost in deep thought walk. And the real objective here is not to reach any particular destination, but to arrive at a final conclusion.

4 The Strutting Walk

The posture of strutting is rather stiff and inflexible, and the chin is normally raised to display a proud and superior image. People who strut usually walk with their chest pushed forward combined with an exaggeration in their arms movements.

This type of walk has a distinctive way of showing the person's proud, arrogant, and egoistic character. The goose-step marching style demonstrated in the solemn military parades is also considered as a ritualized form of strutting, signaling pride, superiority and control.

5 The Hand On The Hip Walk

Walking with one hand resting on the hip-bone while pushing their pelvises forward is a pose often used by catwalk models at fashion shows. This seductive pose is defined as a sexual body Language form used by models to enhance the garment's allurement they are wearing.

Some women tend to adopt this pose when flirting with men as it can effectively attract attention to her erogenous zones, thus making them to appear sexier. On the other hand, if this is adopted by a man, it will appear unmanly and sissified. Homosexual men usually combine this gesture along with a feminine gait to intentionally express their inner sexuality in a very conspicuous way.

Walking Up In Life

Do you take small steps, or giant strides? What is your most comfortable pace? Do you look at the sky, at the ground, at the buildings, or at other people as you are walking along? Everyone has their very own distinctive way of moving, but the important question here is how do you, yourself usually walk.

This may come as a surprise to many, but did you know that people around you will respond in a more positive way if you walk with a confident, relaxed and upright posture. The reason is because your body will be more upstanding when you walk with an erect posture, you will also be more observant and attentive to your surroundings, thus giving you a more accurate assessment of what is happening around you.
